Renewable Energy Service Company (RESCO)

Renewable Energy Solutions

At BREL, we offer tailored solar energy solutions to help you cut energy costs, lower your carbon footprint, meet regulatory requirements, and achieve sustainability goals. Our rooftop solar power systems provide green energy with no upfront investment, offering savings compared to grid tariffs. In select regions, we also deliver solar power through grid-connected systems and hybrid farms. For those looking to invest, our “CAPEX model” allows you to directly invest in your solar panels and installation.

The RESCO Model, endorsed by the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI), mirrors the OPEX Model for solar rooftop installations. It allows customers to pay only for the solar energy consumed at a tariff lower than the grid electricity rate, requiring no upfront investment and generating cost savings. This model is widely utilized by government ministries to issue tenders for installing rooftop solar systems on government buildings, educational institutions, and non-profit organizations. Additionally, both Central and State Government agencies may offer subsidies and favorable regulations to support RESCO solar developers.

No Upfornt Investment

Unlike solar EPC or CAPEX models where the consumer invests upfront and owns the solar system, the RESCO model requires no initial investment. Under this model, the solar plant is owned by the RESCO developer, and the consumer pays only for the solar energy produced. This allows you to benefit from solar power without dealing with operational and maintenance concerns. You simply pay a fixed monthly tariff that is lower than the current grid electricity rate.

Government Support

To achieve the target of 40GW of rooftop solar by 2022, Central and State Government agencies provide favorable regulations and substantial support for RESCO solar developers. In some states, developers can receive up to 70% subsidy for RESCO projects on government buildings. Despite the rising demand for solar energy, potential risks and the large investment required for CAPEX models can deter end users. The RESCO model, offered by BREL, addresses these concerns by eliminating upfront costs and providing attractive tariffs, making it an appealing option for industrial, commercial, and institutional energy consumers.

OPEX MODEL Build-Own-Operate (BOO)

The OPEX Model, or Build-Own-Operate (BOO), allows you to benefit from solar power with no upfront investment. In this model, BREL handles the entire lifecycle of your solar system—from construction and ownership to ongoing operation and maintenance. You pay only for the energy consumed, typically at a tariff lower than conventional grid electricity. This approach ensures a seamless transition to renewable energy with minimal financial risk, while maximizing the efficiency and reliability of your solar power system. Enjoy clean, green energy without the hassle of managing the solar installation and its upkeep.

CAPEX MODEL (EPC)

The CAPEX Model, or Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) approach, offers a comprehensive solution for those who prefer to own their solar system. Under this model, you make a one-time investment to cover the costs of designing, procuring, and constructing the solar power system. BREL manages the entire process, from the initial design and procurement of solar panels and equipment to the final installation and commissioning. This model provides full ownership and control over your solar energy system, allowing you to benefit from long-term savings on energy costs and potentially gain from government incentives and rebates. Enjoy the advantages of renewable energy with the flexibility to customize and expand your system as needed.

OPEX Vs CAPEX:

Choosing the Right Solar Model for Your Business

Switching to solar energy is a strategic move for your business, offering long-term cost savings and environmental benefits. However, understanding the financial models available is crucial before transitioning to green energy. You generally have two options: investing in a rooftop solar plant or purchasing solar power under a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA). These options can be pursued through two financial models: the Capital Expenditure (CAPEX) model or the Operating Expenditure (OPEX) model. Here’s a comparison to help you make an informed choice:

Description OPEX CAPEX
Owner BREL owns the solar asset Customer owns the solar asset
Investment Zero upfront investment required; capital can be invested in core business 100% investment borne by the customer
Management Approval Timelines Quickly scalable; no need for internal CAPEX approvals Typically requires long lead times for CAPEX approvals at senior management level
What you pay for Pay only for the solar electricity generated; no hidden costs Pay for system purchase and O&M charges; no tariff for solar electricity generated
Per Unit Savings 20-40% cheaper than grid electricity tariff Capital repaid through savings on generated electricity
